Mark Edwards continued a rich vein of form by winning his second title at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

Three days after landing the Equitop Senior Newcomers class on Royale Tale, Welshman Mark Edwards returned with the seven-year-old mare to take the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet Grade C Championship.

Mark’s latest success followed a runners-up finish in the Ripon Select Foods Puissance on Saturday night behind Ireland’s Commandant Geoff Curran.

“It feels like I haven’t been to bed, but it was definitely worth getting up for,” said Mark, who is based near Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Mark triumphed by 73 hundredths of a second after nine combinations made it through to the jump-off from 29 starters.

Scotland’s James Smith and Prince Malko M were second, with Rebecca Marsh and Stevie G completing the podium places.

“Any class here is tough to win,” Mark added. “Royale Tale has been on great form for the past few months, and she was on great form again today.

“She will probably have a little break now, and we will aim her for bigger stuff next season and hopefully be back here and winning again in 12 months’ time.

“It was a great atmosphere for the puissance last night – that’s what we do it for – and when the crowd is right behind you like that, the buzz is unbelievable.”
