Q: Susanna, how did your journey with polo begin?
A: My introduction to polo happened in Colombia, while living for a year at Los Pinos Polo Club. I came from eventing and show jumping, so I thought I knew equestrian sport well. But polo opened an entirely new world. The speed, intensity, and the partnership between horse and rider captivated me completely, and it quickly became a true passion.
Q: What inspired you to establish a polo club in Sweden?
A: When I returned to Sweden, I wanted to continue playing but soon realized there were no polo clubs in the south. Instead of giving up, I decided together with my husband Benny Håkansson and our close friend Jack Shirley to create one ourselves. What started as a small idea gradually grew as members joined, invested in ponies, and helped shape the club into what it is today.
Q: What is the vision behind OVED Polo Club?
A: From the very beginning, our vision has been to build a family‑oriented polo club where people feel welcome, supported, and truly at home. Our members mean everything to us; they are the heart of the club and the reason it continues to grow.
Q: Horses are clearly central to your philosophy. Can you tell us more?
A: Horses and true horsemanship are at the core of everything we do. Horse welfare, thoughtful training, and respect for the ponies come before anything else. We take great pride in preparing our horses carefully and responsibly.
Q: Was there a defining moment in the club’s journey so far?
A: A very special moment was when professional player Carlos Pando visited the club and later held a polo clinic. For a player of his level to support a small, farm‑based polo club says a great deal about his love for the sport, and it aligned perfectly with our values.
Q: Looking ahead, what makes you most proud of OVED Polo Club?
A: I am incredibly proud of the journey so far and, above all, of the community, the horses, and the shared passion that define our club. What began as a dream has become a thriving reality, and we look forward to continuing to grow, inspire, and welcome new generations into the world of polo.
