Max Zammit, the CEO of EquestriMalta, has a storied career in business and equine sports. Holding a Master in Business Administration, along with diplomas in Digital Marketing and Information Studies, Max is not only a pivotal figure in equestrian sports but also serves as Mayor of Ta’ Xbiex and Vice-President of the Eastern Region of Malta. Since 2021, he has administered the equine sports authority, EquestriMalta.

EquestriMalta, established in late 2020, is Malta’s regulatory authority for equine sports. The organization oversees horse racing, dressage, show jumping, and polo. Their mission is to promote equine sports, enhance training facilities, and provide education and training. Collaborating with the Malta Polo Club for three years, EquestriMalta has supported numerous tournaments, educational initiatives, and infrastructure development.

Malta’s sunny Mediterranean climate, with around 300 days of sunshine per year, makes it an ideal location for outdoor sports. The Malta Polo Club, established in 1868, is the second-oldest polo club in the world. Located at the Malta Equidrome Complex in Marsa, it features a full-sized pitch, facilities for 60 horses, and various amenities. The club hosts matches, tournaments, and training sessions, welcoming both seasoned players and newcomers.

Malta’s climate, providing 10 to 12 hours of sunshine per day in summer and 5 to 6 hours in winter, enhances the island’s appeal for outdoor sports. With the right investment, polo can continue to grow. The vision is for the Malta Polo Club to evolve into a federation, uniting local clubs while fostering new ones. Malta has established national polo teams for men and women, showcasing and enhancing talent internationally.

Beyond sports, Malta offers an exceptional quality of life. The climate, recreational facilities, and a vibrant culinary and entertainment scene make Malta a cultural hotspot. Maltese cuisine blends Mediterranean flavors, and the entertainment scene features live music, festivals, and a growing film and arts industry.

With nearly 160 years of polo history, Malta is equipped to welcome visiting players. Collaborations with clubs like Roma Polo Club, La Mariana Polo Club, and All Ireland Polo Club ensure exciting tournaments and training camps. Construction of a new polo pitch will begin later this year, ensuring polo all year-round. Malta aims to develop a comprehensive equine sport complex housing polo, horse racing, and other equestrian sports.

In the coming months, EquestriMalta will support the Malta Polo Club with a polo simulator and more club ponies, enhancing polo training and gameplay. With Max Zammit at the helm, EquestriMalta continues to drive the growth of equine sports in Malta and beyond.
